Oceania Cruises has announced an order for two new ships in a new class from Fincantieri S.p.A. The ships will be delivered in 2022 and 2025.
In a written statement Bob Binder, president and chief executive officer of Oceania Cruises, said that the new ships would represent an "evolution" of Oceania's onboard experience, with a focus on residential-style staterooms and suites, as well as gourmet cuisine.
The two 67,000 gross ton Allura-class ships will each accommodate approximately 1,200 guests, the cruise line said. This new class of mid-size cruise vessels will retain all the design elements and signature amenities of the line’s Marina and Riviera, while adding a number of new features.
Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Oceania Cruises parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, said that the new ships would help to meet strong demand for upscale culinary- and destination-focused cruise vacations.
Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri, said that the new order brings the shipbuilder's backlog to 55 new cruise ships to be delivered through 2027.
The contract price for each of the two vessels is approximately €575 million per ship. Oceania said that the company has obtained export credit financing with favorable terms to fund 80 percent of the contract price of each ship, subject to certain Italian government approvals.
