Quark Expeditions and Croatia’s Brodosplit shipyard came to an agreement today to build a new 200-passenger ship. Designed by LMG Marin, and slated to launch in 2020, the new ship will be built to have an extended range in order to take passengers to remote polar destinations.
The ship’s design focuses on optimizing fuel, water, provisions and waste handling systems to give it a 40-day operational capacity. With this range, Quark Expeditions will take the ship’s passengers to places like the Ross Sea and the western Antarctic “Phantom Coast.” Safety systems, such as the ship’s 13 fully redundant critical systems, ensure that passengers are always safe while exploring the Earth’s extremes.
To allow for faster and more flexible landings, the ship will feature an internal zodiac hangar equipped with twenty zodiacs and four embarkation points. Two helidecks will provide plenty of opportunity for flightseeing, heli-skiing and accessing areas inaccessible by zodiacs. The ship also features luxury amenities aboard the ship, including a modern spa, fitness facilities and gourmet restaurants.
Quark Expeditions is a member of a group of specialty travel brands known as Travelopia. Quark Expeditions has a history of polar travel. The company carried out the first tourist trip through the Arctic’s Northeast passage and led the first commercial circumnavigation of Antarctica.
