Seabourn has cancelled a call by the Seabourn Ovation to Xiamen, China, that had been scheduled for Monday, February 3, a spokesperson for the cruise line tells Luxury Travel Advisor, due to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Level 3 travel warning to China regarding the coronavirus outbreak. Instead, the line will adjust the itinerary to include a visit to Sandakan, Malaysia, on Monday, February 10.
“No other calls in the region have been cancelled at this time,” the cruise line said, noting that calls currently planned to go ahead as scheduled include Hong Kong, which is currently under Watch Level 1, Practice Usual Precautions, by the CDC. That destination has shuttered a number of tourist attractions and is planning to suspend passenger services at a number of links with mainland China Thursday, January 30, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
Seabourn also reports that its medical experts, who are coordinating closely with the CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO), have implemented a number of screening, prevention and control measures for its ships. These include include denial of boarding for persons who have recently visited the epicenter of the disease, Hubei Province, China; health screening, including temperature checks, for persons from the affected region; and standard pre-boarding health reporting for all guests. Guests visiting the line’s onboard medical centers for respiratory illness will be evaluated for coronavirus, and the line will carry out environmental disinfection onboard in addition to its regular cleaning and sanitation protocols.
