Viking Receives Sixth Ocean Vessel Viking Jupiter

Viking Jupiter Float Out

Viking took delivery of Viking Jupiter, its sixth ocean ship, yesterday morning at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy. Beginning in a little over a week, its maiden season will consist of itineraries throughout the Mediterranean and Scandinavia.

On February 16, Viking Jupiter will become the first in Viking’s fleet to sail the new Journey to the Antiquities itinerary between Athens and Rome. The ship will officially be named in Oslo, Norway on June 6 by its ceremonial godmother, the acclaimed Norwegian soprano Sissel Kyrkjebø.

Viking’s ocean ships have a gross tonnage of 47,800 tons, with 465 staterooms that can hold up to 930 guests. Aside from Viking Jupiter, the company’s ocean fleet includes Viking Star, Viking Sea, Viking Sky, Viking Sun and Viking Orion. Ten additional ships are currently planned for delivery starting in 2021, which could bring Viking’s ocean fleet to 16 by 2027.
