The 32nd Annual St. Maarten Heineken Regatta will take place from March 1 through March 4, 2012, and feature contests, races, and musical entertainment. There are two pre-events: the Gill Commodores Cup, a one-day race for spinnaker classes only, on March 1, 2012, and the Budget Marine Match Racing Cup, a one-day match racing event on February 28, 2012. The actual regatta features round-the-buoys contests, races and a battle of the bands each night, leading up to an award ceremony on Sunday night. Past headliners have included The Black Eyed Peas, Ziggy Marley and Wyclef Jean.

The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta will also feature some of the grandest yachts participating in the Caribbean 600 ocean race, including: Aegir II, a Carbon Ocean 82; Bella Pita, a Tripp 75; I-SEA, a Farr 78; the Swan 100, Varsovie; and POS, a Reichel/Pugh 78 in 2011.

St. Maarten is the smallest island in the world to be shared by two countries, Kingdom of the Netherlands and France, and it is considered “the culinary capital of the Caribbean”.
