A Cocktail to Celebrate the Olympics at the Ritz London

The Olympics are in full swing, and if you’re lucky enough to attend the Games in London, drop by The Ritz for a celebratory cocktail. (Pssst. There’s still time for a last-minute getaway across the pond, as airlines have been slashing prices and there’s still room at the inn. Many luxury hotels have vacancies.) The grand old hotel at 150 Piccadilly has created an Olympic Cocktail, served in The Rivoli Bar, priced at £26 per person and accompanied by a selection of canapés prepared by Executive Chef John Williams MBE. Think Steak Tartare served on Crisp Armenian Bread, Smoked Salmon Mousse with Lime Meringue, Foie Gras Bon Bon, and Prawn Cracker with Sauce Mireille.

Called “United Dreams,” the cocktail mixes five ingredients from the five corners of the world: Gin from Europe, Tonquin Beans from West Africa, Feijoa Fruit from Oceania, Ginger of the Indies from Asia, and Orange Zest from the Americas. It’s topped with apple juice, and garnished with a carmelised apple fan. Then presented over crushed ice in a coupe misted with flecks of gold, placed on a tray sprinkled with gold and silver powder.
