Beyond the Cronut: Dominique Ansel’s “Doclair” at Sheraton Huzhou

Dominique Ansel, Doclair

New York City may be mad for the cronut—Dominique Ansel’s croissant-donut hybrid—but the pastry chef has quietly debuted another innovation halfway around the world. According to buzz on Twitter, the Cronut Creator has unveiled the “Donut-Éclair”- or “doclair”—at the Sheraton Huzhou Hot Springs Resort in China. The resort itself-- which debuted in late July 2013—has a fantastical architectural design that’s been described as a “glowing donut.” (How appropriate!)

Perched at the edge of Taihu Lake in Huzhou, known as “the city of silk,” in the northern part of Zhejiang Province, the hotel has 321 luxurious guest rooms with marble bathrooms equipped with both sunken bathtubs and walk-in rainforest showers. Facilities include a fitness center, the holistic Shine Spa, and five F&B outlets. The Sheraton Huzhou Hot Springs Resort is at the gateway to Mogan Mountain, “one of China’s best summer resorts,” and Lake Taihu is a touristic attraction, famous for its limestone formations.

No details yet on whether this lovely pastry will find its way to Manhattan or other parts of the world, but we’ll keep you posted. For more information on the Sheraton Huzhou Hot Springs Resort Huzhou, visit www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/features/index.html?propertyID=3414
