This has been one of our “hotels to watch” for a few years, and now visitors to the historic spa town of Bath in southwest England can check into the Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel. Opened this summer, the hotel occupies three heritage-listed buildings with Georgian façades: Gainsborough, Bellotts and Hetling House. What’s so exceptional about the hotel is its location in the historic heart of town, granting guests direct access to the famed thermal waters that have been appreciated for their healing properties for millennia.

A member of Leading Hotels of the World, the Gainsborough Bath Spa is part of the YTL hotel chain (also behind The Majestic Kuala Lumpur). There are 99 rooms and suites, conceived by Champalimaud Design to pay homage to the building’s Georgian history. Facilities include an impressive spa village, a cocktail bar, and a fine dining restaurant helmed by Johann Lafer, Germany’s renowned Michelin starred chef and TV personality. This is only the second five-star hotel in the town of Bath, which is located 90 minutes by train from London.
