Authentic Mexico gets a laid-back vibe with Escondido’s beach huts.

We’re big fans of Grupo Habita—just see our November issue on Discovering Mexico City. So we were especially delighted to hear that the boutique collection expanded in December with the debut of Hotel Escondido, a “beach hut village” on the Pacific coast north of Puerto Escondido in Mexico. A member of Design Hotels, the rustic-chic hotel sets out to capture the laid-back vibe of this hot surfing destination.

Designed with a contemporary twist on the traditional palapa beach hut, the 16 bungalows feature locally sourced wood floors, private plunge pools and canvas hammocks. Fourteen of the rooms have king-sized beds, while two rooms have double queen beds.

Amenities include in-room massages, local cuisine, and a bar. Beyond surfing, the destination offers a treasure trove of activities—from bird watching to kayaking. Dining options include Mexican style breakfasts, grilling on the beach, wood oven pizza and local catches of the day.

There is a spa on-site with two massage rooms, along with cold and hot plunge pools and a sauna.
