Exciting news from the South Pacific. The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort — which is located on 17 acres of a former coconut plantation in Fiji — has unveiled the fruits of a multimillion dollar renovation project. The work began in 2012, and the final phase has just been unveiled. What’s in store at this eco-luxury resort?

Most notable are the brand new accommodation options: three Deluxe Oceanfront two-bedroom Bures (Fijian bungalows). These accommodations were created to provide more flexibility for groups (like two couples traveling together, or families who want to share accommodations). Overlooking Savusavu Bay, these bures are designed with sustainable wood with traditional thatched roofs in the local Fijian style. Outdoor decks are furnished with lounges and hammocks for better appreciating the views. Within each bure, the large bedrooms have private entrances, bathrooms, and en-suite facilities to guarantee privacy.

Other resort improvements include a renovation of the main entrance, new décor in the pool and beach areas, and an enlarged family dining area. The new pier deserves a special shout-out because of its fabulous lighting (imagine watching tropical fish at night under the stars!) The furnishings in guest accommodations and public areas were also updated with authentic, local furniture. All resort lighting was changed to energy-efficient LED lights to reduce the resort’s carbon emissions.
