With increasing awareness of dietary restrictions, hotels and restaurants are racing to make sure that there's something for every taste and limitation, with some impressive advances in recent years…and weeks.
To wit: Hotelier Middle East is reporting that Sweet Connection, the region's first 100 percent gluten-free kitchen, has opened in Dubai. The outlet offers alternatives to wheat-based breads, pizzas, cakes, cookies and more, for those who are either gluten intolerant or suffer from Coeliac disease. (Research suggests between 5 and 10 percent of all people may suffer from some form of food sensitivity.)
Set up in the Green Community at Dubai Investment Park, the bakery sells a daily line of gluten free goodies as well as goods baked to order. Sweet Connection also has a wide range of dairy and egg free products for vegans and lactose-intolerant gourmands.
