Galeries Lafayette Expands Art Program to Four Cities

As if art fans needed another reason to go to France, here's one more: Galeries Lafayette is presenting "Windows on Art" from July 9 to August 4. Previously known as "Paris & Creation," the 2012 event has been extended to four cities: Marseille, Nantes, Paris and Strasbourg. For one month, Galeries Lafayette will present works borrowed from the summer program of exhibitions to give passersby a view of the city’s cultural scene. Each institution designs a never-before-seen window display with artists.

In Marseille, Euro-Mediterranean Ateliers for Marseille-Provence 2013, Marseille Expos for the Fifth Floor Gallery and Marseille Museum of Contemporary Art are taking over the windows of the department store on Rue Saint-Ferréol. In Nantes, A Journey to Nantes, the FRAC des Pays de la Loire, Lieu Unique Cultural Cen- tre and Nantes Museum of Fine Arts are behind four projects reflecting their summer exhibitions.

In Paris, the windows of the Galeries Lafayette store on Boulevard Haussmann are home to the Centre Pompidou, the Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine, la Gaîté Lyrique, Galliera Museum of Fashion, a new addition this year, La Maison Rouge, LE BAL, Paris Museum of Modern Art and the Palais de Tokyo.

And in Strasbourg, the windows focus on the Centre Européen d’Actions Artistiques Contem- poraines, FRAC Alsace and Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
