James Beard Foundation Announces 2013 Nominees for Achievements in Culinary Excellence

FoodNational semi-finalists for the prestigious 2013 James Beard Foundation culinary awards have been announced in 59 categories, including best restaurant, chef, restaurant design, cookbook, and broadcast.   

Established in 1990, the JBF was founded under the mission to celebrate, nurture, and preserve America’s diverse culinary heritage.  Winners are awarded based on rulings from a committee of industry professionals, receiving a certificate and engraved medallion to represent their accomplishment.  The JBF Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception for Restaurant, Chef, and Restaurant Design is scheduled for May 6th, at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, and is open to the public.  

The event will feature top culinary talents from across the country tasked to create dishes reflective of this year’s theme, “Lights! Camera! Taste! Spotlight on Food & Film,” a tribute to the role food plays in America’s most iconic films. Tickets start at $475 and can be purchased at jamesbeard.org/awards.

This years nominees include Empellón Cocina in NYC, Grace in Chicago, The Ordinary in Charleston, Rich Table in San Francisco, and State Bird Provisions in San Francisco, for Best New Resutarant.
