London, A Private Tour

London

All week we've been running a special report on our trip to visit luxury hotels in London and beyond. We've already taken a look at Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa in the English countryside and Chewton Glen, a property that's perfect for devotees of Jane Austen. Here we round out our tour with a return to London.

On the way back into London from nearby destinations like Bath and Wiltshire, a stay at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate will make any guest feel like royalty, as Buckingham Palace is just a short four-minute walk down the road. With 85 suites in three buildings, Taj 51 Buckingham Gate has a suite to suit every guest. Families should book the two- and three-bedroom suites (with in-suite washer and dyers). For guests who want the ultimate view, book a room on the seventh floor that overlooks the tranquil courtyard or Buckingham Palace.

Movie buffs will be happy to learn that “A Room With a View” was filmed on property, and it is possible to book the “Cinema Suite” with a 75-inch television. The suite has unique Hollywood touches; the walls are painted the same color as Marilyn Monroe’s favorite lipstick. The “Jaguar Suite” is another specialty suite that pays homage to the car brand. The multi-room suite comes with a full kitchen, living room, dining room and bedrooms. As an added touch, all the leather used in the suite is the same leather the luxury car company uses.

While on property, guests should book a spa treatment like the popular deep tissue massage. Since there is a small team of three masseuses, reservations should be made in advance. Teens and children can also receive spa treatments or shortened massages, but a guardian must be present.

For a day out in London, guests should visit the nearby Harrods for shopping or schedule a private 45-minute tour of St. Pauls for a behind-the-scenes look at how the famous cathedral was built. For a more high-speed experince, book a speedboat ride with London Rib Voyages. Ask for Dave and Craig to be your guides.

Private boat tours on the Thames and private helicopter rides over London can be arranged for any guest. For guests looking for a night out before a private transfer back to Heathrow (located about 17 miles from Taj), the concierge team can arrange private tables and chef’s tables at the most acclaimed restaurants in London. Agents should contact the general manager, Digvijay Singh, at [email protected].
