Raffles Makati
Raffles Makati touts itself as an urban oasis. Shown here is one of two pools.

Here’s a reason why Manila needs to be on your radar: Raffles Hotels & Resorts has opened its latest hotel there.

Raffles Makati sits in a brand-new, 30-floor tower, home to three areas: Raffles Makati, with 32 suites; Raffles Residences, with 237 one- to four-bedroom residences; and Fairmont Makati, a hotel with 280 deluxe rooms.

Raffles Makati’s suites span the ninth and 10th levels of the tower. We love the look of the floor-to-ceiling windows with views over the city. Raffles aficionados will be amused to know that the Long Bar has made the trek to the Philippines. It has décor similar to that of the Long Bar in Singapore, with tropical fans, terra-cotta tiled floor and long-stemmed ceiling fans.

The restaurants include all-day dining, a contemporary pastry boutique, two lounges as well as the Long Bar and the Writers Bar. The hotel also has two outdoor swimming pools, the Willow Stream Spa and a fitness center.

Getting There: Raffles is 15 minutes from Manila International Airport and within walking distance of the Philippine Stock Exchange, the Ayala Museum and the city’s most tempting shopping destinations. Beach bums will love its proximity to the coastline in Bataan, Batangas City, Nasugbu and San Juan.
