Iceland continues to soaring in popularity as a travel destination, and a new crop of hotels is popping up to meet demand. In exciting news for Marriott’s Edition brand, a project is underway to open its first Icelandic property in Reykjavik in late 2018. A recent article in the Iceland Monitor describes it as the country’s “first five-star international hotel.” For the 250-room hotel, U.S. real estate firm Carpenter & Company bought a prime piece of real estate next to the Harpa Conference Center and Concert Hall on the harbor waterfront.

Developed by hotelier Ian Schrager in partnership with Marriott International, the Edition portfolio now includes lifestyle hotels in London, Miami, and New York- with others in the pipeline for Sanya, China (any day now), plus Bangkok, Abu Dhabi, Shanghai, and Barcelona in 2017. Marriott describes the brand’s hotels as each featuring “rare individuality, authenticity, originality and unique ethos [which] reflect the best of the cultural and social milieu of its location and of the time.”
