Matisse Museum Turns 50, City of Nice Celebrates

Matisse, exhibits in Nice, FranceHeading to the French Riviera on an end-of-summer jaunt? Don’t detour from Nice. The sun-soaked city on the Côte d’Azur is feting the 50th birthday of its Musée Matisse with eight simultaneous exhibits celebrating the artist. This is the first time such an event has been staged, says the Provence Post, and it promises to be a treat for art buffs.

On loan from prestigious national and international institutions, more than 700 Matisse works will be exhibited at the Musée Matisse, the Musée d’Archéologie, the Théâtre de la Photographie et de l’Image, the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain, the Palais Lascaris, the Galerie des Ponchettes, the Villa Masséna and the Musée des Beaux-Arts.

Running until September 23, 2013, the art extravaganza can be accessed with one 10€ pass, which allows entry to all eight exhibits—each with a different theme-- for seven days. For more information about “A Summer for Matisse,” visit en.nicetourisme.com/matisse.
