One of the best times to visit St. Petersburg, Russia is during the White Nights of Summer, when darkness never falls and a lively cultural program means exciting events galore. This year there’s another reason to hightail it to the beautiful city on the River Neva. The new Mariinsky II will be inaugurated in May, the highly-anticipated addition to the world-renowned theatre that’s been operating for over two centuries, from where ballet dancers and opera singers have risen to international fame.
Celebrating his 25th year at the head of the theatre, Valery Gergiev will unveil the Mariinsky II on the first weekend in May. Expect a stellar program for May 2-4, followed by the annual Stars of the White Nights Festival which runs from May 24- July 14, 2013. For more information, visit www.mariinsky.ru
