New Musical to Premiere in Chicago; Will Come to Broadway in Spring

The next Broadway season is already taking shape, and this looks like a show to watch: Playbill.com is reporting that Kinky Boots, the new musical about a floundering British shoemaker who has his business saved thanks to some flamboyant clientele, will begin Broadway previews March 5, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Following a Chicago world premiere from October 4-November 2 at the Bank of America Theatre, Kinky Boots will officially open on Broadway April 4, 2013, following previews from March 5.

Based on the 2005 British film , the musical has some major names attached: Rock star Cyndi Lauper wrote the score, multiple Tony-winner Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song Trilogy, La Cage aux Folles, Newsies) wrote the book, and Tony-winner Jerry Mitchell (2004's La Cage aux Folles, Hairspray) will both direct and choreograph.

Group tickets for the Broadway run will go on sale August 21. For tickets to the Chicago premiere, visit BroadwayinChicago.com.
