New in the Netherlands: W Hotel Amsterdam

W Hotel Amsterdam

W Hotels continues its global expansion strategy, with new properties in the pipeline for Mexico (Punta de Mita and Riviera Maya), Milan (Italy’s first W Hotel), China, Goa, and beyond. One of the latest W hotels to debut is W Amsterdam, opened in October and owned by Europe Hotels | Private Collection. In a hotel market known for cool amenities and cutting-edge design, W Amsterdam looks to stand out with its rooftop pool (the city’s first) and the brand’s signature Whatever/Whenever service.

W Amsterdam is housed in two historic buildings next to Dam Square: the former Telephone Exchange (‘Exchange’) and the old premises of KAS Bank (‘Bank’). There are 238 guest rooms including 21 suites, three WOW suites and two lavish Extreme WOW suites (the equivalent of Presidential suites, which W Hotels is billing as “the city’s most glamorous crash pad.”) Expect signature W touches like Peekaboo showers and up-to-the-minute technology; guests can use their SmartPhones as their room key.

Amsterdam is known for its music, fashion and arts scene, and W is trying to get in on the action by introducing the XBANK gallery and creative incubator space, “a breeding ground for up-and-coming Dutch fashion and design artists.” Other facilities include The Duchess and Mr Porter restaurants, W Lounge, spa and fitness center.
