New Tokyo Hotel Blends Old and New Japan

Twenty-first century glamor meets Edo Period Japan at the brand-new Gate Hotel Kaminarimon by HULIC, a Design Hotel that sits in one of Tokyo's oldest districts.

The property, which opened in August, is a haven for art and creativity in the Asakusa district. We hear the 13th floor lobby has contemporary furnishings, a large marble reception desk and a panoramic view of the city.

Each of the guest rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows and original artwork by the Japanese artist Katsuhiko Hibino. Hibino specially created five abstract paintings influenced by the dynamic interplay between Uchida’s architectural design and the bustling neighborhood surrounding the hotel, which is home to numerous markets, temples and Shinto festivals.
