Now Open: Hotel Schweizerhof in Bern, Switzerland

Hotel Schweizerhof, Bern, SwitzerlandBack in the day, the Hotel Schweizerhof was the place to stay in the Swiss capital. The historic-listed building is still one of Bern’s most famous landmarks, and after a whopper of a renovation financed by owner Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company, the luxury hotel celebrated its reopening on June 24, 2011. (Located in Bern’s UNESCO listed historic center, the hotel finished the first phase of the two-year restoration project on April 16, 2011.)

Now a member of Design Hotels, the 150-year old hotel boasts new interiors by the London-based MKV Design agency. The makeover combines contemporary flair (like the illuminated onyx reception desk) with historic touches including restored antiques and mirrors from Bern’s golden years. The 99 rooms and suites have been updated with all the latest technology, and come equipped with flat-screen TVs and Nespresso coffee machines. Facilities include Jack’s Brasserie (a Bern institution), a large conference space, ballroom, and business center. The Wellness Center is expected to open at the end of 2011.
