Orient Express Preps to Reopen El Encanto in Santa Barbara

Laura McIver, El Encanto

The landmark Santa Barbara hotel has been vacant for years, but now Orient-Express Hotels Ltd is bringing it back to life. After purchasing El Encanto in 2004, Orient-Express began a dramatic overhaul in 2006. The results of the multi-million dollar makeover will be visible in March 2013, when the hilltop hotel will show off its 92 California-style bungalows, spa, outdoor swimming pool, destination restaurant, and ballroom—all with sweeping views of the Pacific. The goal is to resurrect what was once a favorite hideaway for Hollywood celebs.

Laura McIver has been appointed General Manager. Previously the GM at the Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara, McIver has also held senior positions at Hotel Casa del Mar and Shutters on the Beach. For more information, visit www.elencantohotel.com.
