Raffles to Open Luxury Hotel in the Philippines

Raffles PhilippinesRaffles is feting a big birthday this year—125 years—and what could be more celebratory than opening a brand new hotel in the Philippines? The Singapore-based hotel company is, in fact, embarking on a new phase of expansion with hotel openings in Istanbul, Indonesia, and China slated for the next 18 months. The company has also recently announced that its President, John Johnston, will be retiring at the end of the year, and Peter French will take the reins.

Scheduled to debut in December 2012, the Raffles Makati is billed as “the first luxury hotel to open in Makati City Philippines in 18 years.” (The City of Makati is one of the 17 cities that make up Metro Manila, and is home to numerous foreign embassies and the Philippine Stock Exchange.) Located at 1 Raffles Drive along Makati Avenue, the hotel will bring Raffles’ signature luxuries—like the world-famous Long Bar and its Singapore Slings—to the city. The hotel sits at the heart of a new development a 30-storey tower which contains the Raffles Makati (32 suites), Raffles Residences, and Fairmont Makati (280 deluxe rooms).

Designed by Bent Severin & Associates, the suites will have sweeping views from floor-to-ceiling windows on the tower’s 9th and 10th floors. The design scheme features brightly colored fabrics and local accents; the wood floors are covered in hand-tufted rugs. Facilities like the Willow Stream Spa will be open to both Raffles and Fairmont guests. For more information, visit www.raffles.com/makati.
