Shangri-La Boracay, The Philippines

The international media has been abuzz of late with news that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were in the Philippines to adopt another child and were staying at Shangri-La’s brand-new Boracay Resort and Spa. Though that turned out to be false, we can confirm that the exotic destination has a star power all its own.

The Basics: Boracay is a 45-minute flight south of Manila, with an additional 30-minute land/sea transfer time between Caticlan Airport and the resort.

What’s There: Outside, there’s 1,148 feet of sandy white beachfront. Inside, 645-square-foot deluxe rooms have balconies with sea views, while villa retreats include butler service, private pools and pergolas for outdoor dining. But we’re most impressed by the 1,883-square-foot Tree House Villas. These duplex accommodations feature full-glass windows on the lower level and a spacious al fresco living room above. If you want the most panoramic views of the ocean and island, these are the digs to book.

At the resort’s CHI spa village, one can opt for an array of treatments based on Chinese and Himalayan healing concepts. VIPs can reserve one of the deluxe villas for half- or full-day use. Other recreation options include tennis courts, swimming pool and marine center with diving facilities.

Diners can choose from seven restaurants, including Vintana, with outdoor seating, and Rima, an Italian restaurant perched on a hilltop that offers views of the ocean and forest. Sirena is also set atop a cliff overlooking the sea and caters to seafood lovers.
