Short Films Selected for Tribeca Film Festival

The New York Times' ArtsBeat blog has announced the 60 short films selected for the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, which will include performances by such notable actors as Campbell Scott, Anthony LaPaglia and Colin Quinn. And some of the animated shorts will feature the voices of David Duchovny, Joseph Fiennes and Ian McKellan. The films were reportedly chosen out of 2,862 submissions; they represent 20 countries and include 22 world premieres.

The short films will compete for three awards — Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short and the Student Visionary Award. Best of all: The winner of the Best Narrative Short award will qualify for consideration in the Short Film category of the Academy Awards without the standard theatrical run.
