Summer in London: A Mustique-Inspired Beach Bar at The Goring

Mustique

On a recent trip to Britain, we got the inside scoop on The Goring, the rumored host hotel of the wedding party for the Royal Wedding. Luxury Travel Advisor attended the Best of Britain & Ireland trade show in Birmingham on March 17, where we sat next to Director of Sales Tracy Ramsey for the gala dinner. And we learned a fun piece of news for summer visitors to London. The luxury hotel is importing tons of sand, three fishing boats, and a palm-thatched roof in recreating Basil’s Bar, the cool hang-out on the Caribbean isle of Mustique. A long-time favorite of the jetset crowd, including Princess Margaret, Basil’s could be one of the most famous watering holes on earth. In bringing a shot of Caribbean glamour to SW1, The Goring has even enticed Basil Charles himself to check out the new bar in the hotel’s garden. (Basil will be around for a few weeks when the bar opens in June.) Behind the bar made of polished driftwood, The Goring’s barmen will be shaking up Basil’s favorite cocktails- including the Mustique Mule, the Hurricane David and Basil’s Rum Punch. The bar will be hopping until September, and with Blue Forest’s design team behind it, it’s bound to be a looker.
