Aranwa Pueblito Encantado del Colca
All rooms at Aranwa Pueblito Encantado del Cocla offer views of the Andes.

Luxe travelers looking for the exotic will love this new gem in Peru. Aranwa Hotels Resorts & Spas has made a new addition to its group of luxury hotels. The Aranwa Pueblito Encantado del Cocla (Enchanted Village of Colca; www.aranwahotels.com) is a brand-new resort and spa, located in Peru’s Colca Valley on the banks of the Colca River. Fun Fact: At twice the depth of the Grand Canyon, the resort’s location is known for its colonial traditions, Andean legends and the Valley of the Condors.

A member of Preferred Hotels, the property is designed to complement its surroundings (think clean, modern aesthetics that give guests the impression of staying in a Peruvian village). Each of the 41 rooms offers views of the surrounding river and Andes Mountains. The resort has two natural waterfalls, one of which is accessible to guests, as well as a lake stocked with trout that provides the resort’s restaurant and patio with water views.

We love the eco-friendly nature of the resort, with all the guest rooms having solar-powered heat and hot water supply. A small organic farm stocks the kitchen with fresh quinoa, beans, corn and more. Additionally, as a nod to its colonial plantation past, a water-powered grain mill at the resort’s entrance has been completely restored and is used to grind grain and make flour for the kitchen.

About Town: Pueblito Encantado del Colca is located 10 minutes from the town of Chivay, which offers visitors a local market, religious festivals and a cultural exposure to ancient Andean traditions and mysticism. Also nearby is the La Calera hot springs. Three hours away is Arequipa, which is built from white volcanic stone.

Getting There: There are direct flights from Lima or Cusco to Rodriguez Ballón International Airport.
