Traveling Gourmet: Wine and Dine in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is a classy town. We know - we've wined and dined on its pier. The locals love their epicurean adventures, so we know that this year's epicure.sb: a month to savor santa barbara is going to be epic.

Now in its third year, this community-wide festival (held in October) has cemented its place as the apex of Santa Barbara's culinary calendar with 31 days and 75+ ways to celebrate food and wine. We hear that the region's top restaurants, wineries, gourmet purveyors and galleries present food and wine festivals, cooking classes, winemakers' dinners, seasonal menus, epicurean-inspired art exhibits and more.

So what can the traveling gourmet expect? Tackle the "Eat Local Challenge," presented by Edible Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Certified Farmers' Market. Educational events including cooking demos are offered by Whole Foods, as well. Sample wine country with the Celebration of Harvest or savor regional microbrews at the Santa Barbara Beer Festival. Whatever your palette, October is sure to be a month-long foodie fest.
