Lovers of the country and outdoor living are certainly bound to fall for Wilderness Reserve’s most recent addition, Moat Cottage. Wilderness Reserve is a privately-owned, 5,000 acre estate in the heart of Suffolk, just two hours from London and minutes from the Heritage Coast. Moat Cottage is a moated Tudor farmhouse set on a hilltop for gorgeous views.

Moat Cottage offers travelers the best of both worlds, with wide old oak boards and an ancient rolling timber frame, in addition to complete underfloor heating throughout the space. The cottage, with its boat-like feel, is thatched using Northfolk Reed and locally grown long straw ridges. In addition to the bedrooms, the sitting room includes an inglenook fireplace while the open-plan kitchen has oak bi-fold doors, leading to views of the Suffolk landscape. Amenities of Moat Cottage include a professional range cooker, daily housekeeping and the additional option of adding chefs and butlers.

Pro tip: A summer house provides the outdoorsman in your family the perfect spot for fishing in the moat, which is completely stocked with roach, rudd and skimmers. There’s also the option for clay-pigeon shoots, bird-watching, buggy tours and cycling. If that isn’t your style, the bothy includes a hot tub sunken into the water for ultimate relaxation.

Wilderness Reserve comprises 50 total bedrooms in a fully-serviced manor house, with a collection of exclusive use farmhouses, cottages, barns and follies. On the main estate, about 15 minutes from Moat Cottage, guests will find a naturally-filtered swimming pool as well as tennis courts.
