Fairmont is finally coming to Barcelona. We heard today that Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will take over the 432-key Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I, rebranding it the Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I this autumn.
As part of the agreement, the hotel will undergo an extensive renovation starting in 2015, and good news is the hotel will remain open throughout.
The hotel was inaugurated by the King and Queen shortly before the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. Amenities include the Polo Restaurant, Club Lounge and a lobby bar. It includes a fitness and spa with both indoor and outdoor pools, plus 13 treatment rooms.
Location, location, location: The hotel is on Avenida Diagonal and has views over the city and sea. It is also near Barcelona's famous shopping districts, Placa Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia.
