Demand Soars for New Eurostar Service to Marseille

Eurostar train

A new Eurostar train service connects London to Marseille and the Mediterranean coast in six hours. The route may cover more than 767 miles, but that’s not stopping travelers from booking the long-distance train. A recent article in Bloomberg Business describes the robust demand for the trip to Marseille, and also the “buoyant bookings” to stops like Lyon and Avignon along the route.

Eurostar hasn’t started an advertising campaign, and yet ticket sales have been higher than anticipated for the new route, which will start year-round operations on May 1. (Eurostar used to run only a summer train to Avignon in Provence.)

Eurostar is branching out from its core destinations, as historically the high-speed train connects London with Paris and Brussels. In addition to the new Mediterranean route, Eurostar is planning a service to Rotterdam and Amsterdam in 2016. Eurostar had 10.4 million passengers in 2014.
