Estelle Touzet at Le Meurice in Paris is Awarded Best Sommelier of the Year

Oenophiles who dine at Yannick Alléno’s Michelin Three-Star Restaurant in Paris are in for a treat: wine selections by the lovely Estelle Touzet, recently awarded “Best Chef Sommelier of the Year” by the Pudlowski Guide. Hailing from the Loire Valley, Touzet joined Le Meurice in October 2010 at the ripe old age of 29. She now holds reign over a 30,000 bottle cellar. (There are 1,100 references on the wine menu.) She’s worked in some of the world’s most famous wine houses, alongside some of the best chefs on the planet. No doubt she’ll pick the best wine to complement Alléno’s stellar cuisine. (For more about the hotel’s chef, check out our review here.)

Top tip: The legendary palace hotel has recently launched Les Nocturnes du 228, a series of monthly wine tasting events at Bar 228. Chef Sommelier Estelle Touzet uncorks delicious vintages in decadent Philippe Starck-designed surroundings. Think deep leather armchairs and dark wood paneling. The wine is paired with mouthwatering canapés from the kitchen. The program runs from 7:00pm to 8:00pm on the first Thursday of select months through 2011. Reservations are strongly recommended:

* April 7 – Wines of Germany, Touzet’s adoptive country
* May 5 – Experience California, Touzet’s first great journey
* June 2 – The Languedoc region, Touzet’s winter escape
* September 8 – Syrah
* November 3 – Riesling

* December 8 – An all-inclusive exploration of Cabernet Sauvignon, at €140 per person
