It’s the day all food-minded travelers have been waiting for. Michelin has released its annual guide to French restaurants with its constellation of stars. Which chefs are newly decorated? Which restaurants have—mon dieu!—lost their stars? This year’s guide includes a whopping 600 restaurants. There are two new three-star restaurants, 10 new two-star restaurants (half of these are located in Paris), and 42 new one-star restaurants. Without further ado, here are the highlights.
Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée and Le Cinq, chef Christian Le Squer’s gastronomic restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel George V, were the only new restaurants to score three stars. Both of these restos are located within Parisian palace hotels.
The list of new two-star restaurants includes: La Grande Maison – Joël Robuchon in Bordeaux; JY’S in Colmar; 1920 in Megève, Paloma in Mougins, Sylvestre in Paris, Le Gabriel at La Reserve Paris, Le Grand Restaurant – Jean-François Piège in Paris, L’Abeille at the Shangri-La Hotel Paris, Histoires in Paris, and Villa René Lalique in Wingen-sur-Moder.
For the full list, visit Michelin’s official website. Sadly, celebrated Michelin-starred chef Benôit Violier died last night of apparent suicide. His Swiss restaurant L’Hotel de Ville is considered one of the world's best, and today's Michelin ceremony paid homage to him.
