Looking for an excuse to visit the City of Light this summer? (Who isn't?) Here's a good one: The Peninsula Paris has announced an August 2014 opening date (according to local website Le Figaro), and we can't wait to see it.
When it opens its doors (after four years of renovation), the Peninsula Paris will mark the brand's European debut, and we say it's done a good job of balancing the classic and contemporary. The building is old-fashioned Beaux-Arts and more than 100 years old.
We're also excited about the outdoor terrace off of the lobby (on the north side) and the hotel's Chinese restaurant (on the south side). Three meals per day (as well as tea and snacks) will be available al fresco on the terrace, and a rooftop restaurant will serve contemporary French fare for those who want to be even higher up. The Chinese restaurant, meanwhile, still doesn't seem to have a name yet, but it will have two private dining rooms for twelve people (each) as well as a Chef's Table for eight (overlooking the kitchen) and a Chinese tea counter.
The basement-level spa, meanwhile, will have six private treatment rooms as well as two VIP couples' suites. (Cool touches: The changing rooms have both herbal steam rooms and ice fountains, just in case one ever feels too warm or too cool.) The ground level will have space for six retail boutique stores—keep an eye out on Luxury Travel Advisor for any announcements on what shops will nab the spots.
