Ritz Paris Closes for Two-Year Renovation

Well, it's happened: The iconic Ritz Hotel in Paris has closed its doors for the next two years to undergo a major renovation.

According to France24, the hotel has not had a refit since 1979, when it was revamped by its new owner, Mohamed Al Fayed. The $170 million dollar refurbishment reportedly comes after the Ritz failed to win France's coveted "palace" designation marking a top luxury destination.

Improvements will include a garden restaurant and new high-tech features for its 160 rooms, but the hotel has reportedly claimed that the rooms will be redecorated in the same style and colors: pink, almond green, yellow and sky blue.
