The Fontenay: Hamburg's First New Luxury Hotel in 18 Years

There’s been lots of social media buzz (and talk at Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas!) about The Fontenay, the first new luxury hotel for Hamburg in 18 years. Slated to open in Autumn 2016, The Fontenay will be located on the site of the former InterContinental hotel on Alster lake in the Rotherbaum district.

This is a pet project of billionaire Klaus-Michael Kuehne, and word on the street is that it’s cost over 100 million euros. (Kuehne has a proven track record with the transformation of Mallorca’s Castell Son Claret into a five-star hotel with a Michelin star restaurant.) The idea is to create a luxurious crash pad for business travelers to his northern German city, but also entice international leisure guests.

With a luxury spa, fine dining restaurant, and 130 rooms and suites, The Fontenay will be a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The official hotel website is still under construction, but stay tuned to www.luxurytraveladvisor.com for more news.
