Many grand hotels and private villas boast spectacular views of Italy’s most famous and exclusive lake, but few rival the breathtaking panoramas from almost every vantage point of Grand Hotel Tremezzo, a glorious palazzo and garden estate perched directly on the lake and facing the historic town of Bellagio.

With several rooms newly renovated for 2014, and eight deluxe rooftop suites added in 2012, the historic hotel has never looked better or more ravishing than it does today.

The details: The renovated hotel is showing off 30 newly renovated Lake View Prestige Rooms and a new signature Historic Suite Aurelia. The suite pays homage to one of the hotel’s own Grand Dames, a revered member of the owning family. The new suite is decorated with antiques from her own collection, including an 18th century oil painting, writing desk and baroque mirror. Suite Aurelia is the fourth Historic Suite that the hotel has added in its collection.

Note: The four original historic suites are grand and elegant (especially Suite Greta, named after movie icon Greta Garbo who stayed here) but the pièces de resistance and most requested premium accommodations are the eight ultra-luxe Rooftop Suites (501 to 508) which opened in 2012.

The new suites embody the style and personality of the original hotel, but with a more contemporary look and feel with Farrow and Ball wall treatments, lighter soft fabrics and modern furnishings.

Each suite features a spacious living room, bedroom and bathroom, as well as a private outdoor terrace with a heated Jacuzzi, and all 12 suites enjoy a fully dedicated private butler and concierge service.

Tip: The rooftop suites can also be connected to create two four-bedroom apartments, ideal for families or friends, with ample space for entertaining or relaxing and savoring those dramatic lake views. Contact Reservations Manager Cristina Guerrotto ([email protected]; 011-39-0344-42491).
