Botswana bound? Belmond Safaris has three luxury lodges in the country, one of which—located in Chobe, Botswana’s first national park—has just emerged from a top-to-bottom overhaul. Known for its incredible biodiversity, the Chobe National Park is an alluring destination, and after a complete rebuild, Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge is showing off a luxury spa, a fire pit overlooking the Savute Channel, and a hidden wildlife observatory with views on the watering hole. As described on the official website, the lodge was “inspired by history’s greatest explorers,” like David Livingstone, who arrived in the Savute region in 1851.
A big focus of the redesign was sustainable features, removing concrete and incorporating bamboo decking. And Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge will now function on solar energy (95 percent). What’s more, furniture in the public areas was crafted from local materials. The new interiors are by Inge Moore of Muza Lab. Designed in a contemporary style, the lounge and bar connects with the open deck from where guests can gaze out across the plains.
The 12 tented rooms are raised on wooden platforms to maximize the wildlife viewing from outdoor decks. Each of these luxurious accommodations comes with a four-poster bed, writing desk, fully stocked mini bar, a spacious bathroom, and air conditioning. To celebrate the reopening, Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge is offering a “Lodge Launch Promotion” with a 30 percent discount on the full-board rate, plus round-trip flights from Maun, valid on stays from July 1 to September 30, 2018.
