Those jetsetting to St. Vincent and the Grenadines will find welcome upgrades at the Palm Island resort, from a revamped culinary program to a new, chic villa for small groups. Note: This is an adults-only resort for most of the year, but children 12 and older are welcome from April 24 to January 2.

The new Sea Feather Villa on the island’s northern shore has three bedrooms with various bed sizes, a living room, and a covered deck up close to the ocean. This would work for couples traveling together or for a girls’ getaway. Refreshments are stocked upon arrival and a complimentary golf cart is provided. Other key features include televisions in all rooms, Internet, a full kitchen, and a washer and dryer.

Another good accommodation for groups is the oceanfront Southern Cross Villa, which sleeps up to four adults. Hint: The villa includes its own 10-by-10-foot infinity pool, a tiled dining terrace, an arbor patio, and two master bedrooms, each with a king-sized bed, a marble bathroom and an ocean-view shower, where a large door opens to the sea. Nice Touch: The villa’s modern kitchen has a flat-screen television and is stocked with pantry staples including cereal, fruits, snacks, coffee and tea. Soft drinks, beer and complimentary bottles of champagne, red wine and white wine are provided upon arrival. A golf cart is also provided for the villa, gratis.

The most popular digs here, however, are the Beachfront Rooms (Nos. 1-6, 7-19, and 24-25), which have king-sized beds, furnished terraces with views of the sea and Union Island, and cozy sitting areas. These 20 rooms work well for couples and are situated in 10 single-story buildings set side-by-side along the beach. Note: More than half of the 43 accommodations at Palm Beach are on the beach while the rest are located just a few steps away. Palm View rooms have views of the garden or the ocean, while Island Lofts are located in a private garden and overlook the ocean. An electric golf cart is available on-property for transporting villa guests.

Luxury travel advisors should connect with Cathleen Londre, Elite Island Vacations’ reservation manager ([email protected]; 800-858-4618, ext. 161) to make special arrangements for A-listers.

Although intimate in size, the Tranquility Body & Soul Spa has a big menu of massage and beauty treatments. Treatments should be reserved in advance but can be booked at the resort when space is available. The couple’s Swedish massage is the most popular and can take place in either the air-conditioned treatment room or on the beach.

Palm Island has a variety of wedding venues for couples, including an open-air gazebo, a beachfront restaurant, as well as a variety of outdoor settings. Ask about the free wedding package for those booking seven nights or more in a beachfront accommodation.

Elite Island Resorts Corporate Chef Stan Baxter and Palm Island Executive Chef Ellis have just upgraded the resort’s overall culinary experience, including menu offerings, presentation and service; we hear that sourcing local produce has become a strong priority. As a result, coconuts, which grow in abundance here, have been added to the menus. Sample breakfast items include coconut-flavored bread, waffles and pancakes. Lunch and dinner items include coconut rice and peas, coconut shrimp, coconut layer cake and coconut macaroons.

Sunset Grill is the casual beachfront restaurant for lunch and dinner. Seating is available inside the restaurant or directly on the sand. Highlights include prime steak, grilled shrimp and blackened fish. Tip: Reservations are only required for the Sunset Grill on Wednesdays and Saturdays 24 hours in advance. The Royal Palm Restaurant sits on the island’s white-sand beach and offers a formal dining experience. The menu highlights include croissants, Eggs Benedict, and Cinnamon French toast with Vincentian rum butter for breakfast; salad, pizzas and pastas for lunch; and an à la carte menu with a variety of international dishes for dinner. Note: Restaurants are open to guests only.

Nice Touch: For an additional charge, the resort can arrange a hilltop private dinner, a champagne lunch picnic, or private dining under a heart-shaped, decorated tree. Off-property excursions are also available such as boat charters, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, and snorkeling with sea turtles in the Tobago Cays.

Inter-island transfers are available for VIPs staying seven nights or longer. Once guests arrive in Barbados (BGI), guests fly to Union Island (UNI) on Grenadines Airlines. After the 45-minute flight, guests are met at the airport and whisked away by golf carts to the resort’s private boat, where they are greeted with bottled water and chilled face cloths for their eight-minute boat ride to the resort.

Luxury travel advisors can contact Katie Rosiak, general manager ([email protected]) for VIP arrangements.

Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa

AMResorts’ new Breathless brand debuted in the form of the Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa late last year. This swanky, adults-only brand is similar to AMResorts’ Secrets brand, but with more of a focus on the “daring” traveler, as opposed to one seeking romance.

The focus here is on the younger, trendier guest, with entertainment being the primary focus of the brand (think private games of poker to private bottle service).

Las Vegas meets South Beach with the pool scene here: There are eight in all, for the various levels of activity or quietude you’re seeking.

We suggest reserving an xhale club Junior Suite, which offers more special perks and privileges, including two private pools. They also include personalized check-in and check-out with a concierge, access to two xhale club lounges, an upgraded minibar and room service menu, and a private restaurant for club VIPs only.

Breathless punta cana has eight swimming pools—one large pool, one bi-level pool, four quiet pools, and two private xhale club pools.Pictured: Breathless punta cana has eight swimming pools—one large pool, one bi-level pool, four quiet pools, and two private xhale club pools.

The Breathless Spa by Pevonia has 12 treatment rooms. Book spa treatments roughly two weeks in advance. Amenities here include steam rooms, sun beds, private showers, a full-service beauty salon and a fitness center. For weddings, the resort offers the bridal suite and a four-hour session for bridal party prep.

Luxury travel advisors should contact Rosanna Ventura, spa director ([email protected]; 809-551-0000), to take over the spa or get details on treatments.

For dining, Sofrito or The Strip restaurants offer the best views; no reservations are necessary. Sofrito serves Latin Criollo cuisine while The Strip serves up gourmet grilled specialties. Only hotel guests are allowed at the restaurants. Nice Touch: Communal tables at four restaurants create an interactive atmosphere and encourage guests to mix and mingle.

The resort also has an open plan plaza with bars, restaurants and shops offering social gathering places for VIPs to mingle and meet.

Travel advisors, contact Alarilla Lopez, chief concierge ([email protected]; 809-551-0000) if you want to make arrangements outside of the resort, or plan something special on property.
