Design Hotels Expands to California

Design Hotels has announced its expansion in California with the addition of Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills and Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs to its collection. The company represents and markets a selection of over 290 independent boutique and luxury hotels in more than 60 countries around the world.

The Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills is located in the heart of Beverly Hills. The property is centered around a boomerang-shaped pool with private cabanas. The hotel was originally built in 1949 and housed guests like Marilyn Monroe, Mae West, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The property was acquired by Proper Hospitality in 2015 and underwent renovations to reflect glamorous mid-century design.

The poolside restaurant Viviane offers a modern California interpretation of classic European and American cuisine. There are 84 rooms and suites, and many are equipped with kitchenettes or private patios, a full-service wellness studio, and more.

The Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs brings guests back to the golden age of Palm Springs, with Spanish architecture and gardens. The property was acquired by Proper in 2015 and updated with a modern interpretation of Hollywood Regency.

There are 67 guestrooms, including 13 one- and two-bedroom villas. There are also three pools, an Estrella Spa, and Chi Chi Restaurant.

Design Hotels is also part of the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program. Members can now earn and redeem Starwood points at both Avalon Hotels in Palm Springs and Beverly Hills. Points are redeemable for reward flights, room upgrades and more, at over 1,300 hotels and resorts across 11 brands in almost 100 countries.
