An Expansion for Six Senses Douro Valley

When it opened in July 2015, Six Senses Douro Valley elevated the hospitality offerings in one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world. The country’s famous wine region—a UNESCO World Heritage site—has since catapulted to the top of travelers’ bucket lists, as Portugal basks in the tourism spotlight. Six Senses Douro Valley has continued to draw affluent travelers looking to partake in the Portuguese good life overlooking the serpentine River Douro. (The spa alone is a destination, complete with 10 treatment rooms, pools and outdoor yoga pavilion.)

In recent news, the luxury resort has announced the addition of seven suites and three guest rooms. Currently there are 57 guestrooms, suites and villas situated across a 19-acre estate. The new rooms will be unveiled in summer 2019. Conceived as restful retreats, the rooms have been created in line with the original, peace-inducing décor by Clodagh Design. In a nod to the setting, the rooms use repurposed local materials like ancient vineyard tools, wooden wine cases and wine bottle light fixtures. Fun perk: Guests can choose their own treats to stock their mini bar in advance of arrival.

Suites on the first floor will include a wine fridge with a selection of local Douro wines, while the 10 guestrooms and suites on the ground floor have furnished outside areas and hot tubs in the bathrooms. On level six, two of the current rooms will have private wooden bridges leading to gardens and hot tubs. What’s more, the resort is adding new meeting rooms and event space overlooking the vineyards.
