The First Roma Dolce hotel will officially open on Rome’s Via del Corso near the Piazza del Popolo on March 1. This marks the second hotel in Italy’s capital city owned and operated by The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts, joining The First Roma Arte. Highlights of the property, we’re told, will be contemporary design, creative gastronomy and inspired wellbeing.
Set in a 19th-century palazzo, the building was designed by visionary architect and urban planner Giuseppe Valadier, who also created the Piazza del Popolo and connected the popular gathering spot to the lush terraces of Villa Borghese.
The First Roma Dolce, which is a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, has 23 guestrooms and suites, updated by Studio Marincola Architechts, the same Rome-based firm behind The First Roma Arta and The Pavilions Madrid. The rooms will have a contemporary, residential-style feel. All rooms and suites have boiserie wood paneling, bookcases with collected books on fine pastry and culinary traditions, art, history and design, and spa-like bathrooms crafted of Nero Saint Laurent Italian marble, a black natural stone embellished by golden and white veining, with Acqua di Parma bath amenities.
Some of the rooms that interest us include the two Prestige Fitness Rooms, which offer a king bed (or two twin beds) in a 375-square-foot space that includes a mezzanine loft fitness area with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, and the four Suites with View and Balcony, all of which are over 500 square feet and have a private balcony overlooking Via del Corso, an bedroom, living room, a Turkish bath, whirlpool tub and more. Tip: Guests in the Prestige Fitness Rooms can book an expert personal trainer for in-room classes.
The hotel also has several family room combinations for larger groups. In total, one option creates a 1,000-square-foot suite with two bedrooms and two living rooms; another is a 740-square-foot suite with two bedrooms and two living rooms with the latest fitness equipment.
Culinary-wise, the hotel’s pasticceria, an elegant pastry gallery on the hotel’s first floor that offers both sweet and savory indulgences, is expected to tempt both travelers and locals alike. Tip: Guests may enjoy the sophisticated Italian dolce (“sweet”) and other seasonal delights in in their rooms via 24-hour room service.
Following this opening, The First Roma Sensi will open in late 2019, a short distance across the Tiber River in the Prati neighborhood. Guests staying at any of the three Pavilions Hotels & Resorts’ properties may “sample” all three hotels—Arte, Dolce and Sensi—from their base hotel, enjoying such five-star services as a Michelin-starred restaurant, rooftop culinary classes, a full spa and an indoor swimming pool, along with convenient transport between properties via luxury sedans and eco-smart golf carts. Each property is also a short five- to ten-minute walk from one another.
