Just outside of Cape Town, Grande Roche Hotel is slated undergo the first stage of refurbishment. The hotel, set at the base of Paarl Mountain, has been attained by Paarl-born entrepreneurs Hansie and Theresa Britz. Grande Roche will close for a month when the first phase of the renovations starts in June.
Changes to the accommodations begins with a soft refurbishment of the most popular rooms. Afterward, each room will be assessed individually, but none of them will deviate from the current style of the hotel. Internet access in the rooms has also been upgraded.
TV celebrity chef Pete Goffe-Wood was appointed as chef-patron of Viande, the new restaurant. In French, the name means, simply, "meat." The new country-style, snout-to-tail menu showcases the culinary direction of the hotel. Viande will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with Sunday brunch likely to happen, as well. The restaurant will be expanded to hold approximately 90 guests. It will take over the entire floor of the hotel's familiar main building.
Additionally, a new cocktail bar will offer tapas, along with more drink options. Chef Geoffe-Wood will also be involved with other food and beverage operations including special events, weddings and conferencing.
The vineyard encompassing the hotel will undergo replanting. Wines are created by Bertus Fourie at Under Oaks, the local estate that becomes sister property to the hotel through this transaction.
Several additions are slated for later phases, including the addition of a luxury spa. Negotiations for this amenity are currently underway.
