Iceland News: Six Senses Össurá Valley to Open in 2022

Six Senses has an eye on Iceland. The sustainability-focused luxury hospitality brand has announced a new project on the country’s southeastern coast, slated to debut in 2022. Surrounded by Iceland’s rugged natural beauty and otherworldly landscapes, Six Senses Össurá Valley will be situated on 4,000 acres of privately owned land in Svínhólar near Lóni. The black sand beach separating the Lón Lagoon and the North Atlantic Ocean is an important habitat for swans, and Six Senses will be involved in protecting the population. According to the press release, the resort aims to “be a hub for people passionate about nature, wellness and adventure by day, and indulgent dining, comfortable beds and perhaps a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis by night.”

In line with the Six Senses brand philosophy, the 70-room resort and private cottages will be built using renewable and locally sourced materials, with a focus on energy and water efficiency. (Down the line, there will also be Six Senses residences.)

Facilities will include a library, cinema, water bar and Earth Lab explaining the project’s sustainability initiatives. Wellness is an integral part of Six Senses resorts, and this Icelandic resort will offer a fitness center, spa and yoga studio. Another highlight will be the organic garden and cooking school where chefs organize classes featuring farm-to-table recipes. Dining will run the gamut from fresh seafood at the specialty restaurant to unique outdoor settings (like next to a waterfall).

Six Senses currently manages 19 hotels and resorts in 14 countries, including the recently opened Krabey Island in Cambodia, along with 37 spas under the brand names Six Senses, Evason, Six Senses Spas and Raison d’Etre. In February, Six Senses was acquired by InterContinental Hotels Group for $300 million.
