New Luxury Hotels in Suzhou, China

Located west of Shanghai, Suzhou is well known for its countless canals, bridges, temples, and gardens. Thanks to much of the city being covered in water (the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal divides the city and there are also many lakes) it’s often referred to as the Venice of the East. And due to a recent boom in tourism, luxury hotels are popping up all over.

Here are some of the best new hotels in the city.

W Suzhou

The W Suzhou opened last month on the banks of the Jinji Lake. Rooms feature elements reminiscent of the city’s Unesco-listed gardens.

W’s signature “Whatever/Whenever” service is available to help guests explore Suzhou. Experiences include taking a romantic canal ride at dusk, studying classic poetry on a private tour of Suzhou’s iconic gardens, or custom designing an ornate silk brocade hand-embroidered by a skilled local artisan.

Le Meridien Suzhou, Suzhou Bay

The newly opened hotel offers 285 rooms and suites with views of Lake Taihu or the city. There are also six villa rooms with their own private hot springs.

Inspired by French luxury, the lobby lounge showcases a 24-hour soundtrack curated by French band Nouvelle Vague. Eclairs and evening aperitif-inspired sparkling cocktails also give the property a French flair.

Suzhou Marriott Taihu Lake

Set to open later this month, the Suzhou Marriott Taihu Lake is located 45 minuters from the city center. Ancient Wu culture, family-friendly attractions, breathtaking scenery and local cuisine are all nearby.

The property is the first internationally branded hotel to open in the area. Amenities cater to vacationing and working guests and include four restaurants and bars, four swimming pools (including one for kids), a kid’s club, complimentary Wi-Fi, modern guest rooms and nearly 57,000 square feet of meeting and event space with direct access to the garden and entrance.

The hotel’s location is also convenient to the Taihu International Conference Center, Taihu International Golf Course and the many scenic and historical spots in Taihu National Tourism Vacation Zone.
