Natural Selection—the talked-about safari company with a collection of ecotourism-focused lodges across Botswana, South Africa, and Namibia—unveiled its newest Namibia lodge on March 1.
Kwessi Dunes is located on the NamibRand Nature Reserve, a sprawling 531,000-acre expanse that’s one of the largest private reserves in southern Africa, positioned at the gateway to Sossusvlei. As we’ve previously reported, this protected zone was developed by Namibian farmer Albi Bruckner in the 1980s; he integrated several farms and removed the fences that divided them.
Surrounded by striking scenery—the vast plains backed by stark mountains and brilliant red dunes—Kwessi Dunes is comprised of 12 air-conditioned chalets made with canvas walls and thatched roofs. A standout feature is the separate “star gazer” room that’s completely open to the night sky so that you can admire the Southern Cross and count the constellations in one of the best places on earth to go stargazing. Guests can also appreciate the desert panoramas from the lodge’s main area and swimming pool.
Activities at Kwessi Dunes include hot air ballooning, day trips to Sossusvlei, quad biking, scenic walks, horse riding and helicopter flights.
