Following an 11-month closure, The Oberoi Beach Resort Lombok has reopened. The resort is located on the white, sandy shores of Indonesia’s Medana Beach and set within 24 acres of landscaped gardens.
Rooms start at 968 square feet and some even have their own private pool. All have thatched roofs, handcrafted fabrics and local art.
There are three restaurants at the resort. The relaxed, al fresco dining space at The Sunbird Café has an outdoor kitchen where chefs prepare signature Oberoi dishes, plus Indonesian, Indian and international options for breakfast and lunch. The fine dining Lumbung Restaurant serves Indonesian and international cuisines for dinner. (“Lumbung” is the local word for the building that holds the rice harvest.) If you want to take things slow and enjoy the sunset over the ocean, head to the open-air bar Tokek Bar, serving cocktails, fine wines and Lombok coffee, accompanied by tapas and international snacks. Good to know: Weekly traditional performances are available at The Amphitheatre, an extention of Lumbung Restaurant. This intimate open-air venue hosts music and dance performances by the indigenous Sasak populous, accompanied by a specially curated a la carte menu served by candlelight.
Guests can also indulge in the array of unique Oberoi experiences, including the Oberoi Spa, infinity pool and tennis courts. The Oberoi Spa has open-air, thatched-roof therapy rooms, set within private walled gardens and furnished for couples with two massage beds, a standalone bathtub, a shower, a steam room and a relaxation area. The dedicated therapists are highly qualified and experienced in traditional Balinese, Western and signature Oberoi therapies.
The secluded nature of the resort lends itself well to couples seeking a romantic retreat or solo travelers looking to relax. The clear, warm waters of Medana Bay and the nearby Gili Islands are home to coral reefs and underwater gardens teeming with colorful marine life and giant sea turtles, great for snorkeling and scuba diving. Bonus: The resort is known for having some of the best sunsets in the world over Bali’s sacred Mount Agung.
