New in Costa Rica: Origins Luxury Lodge

Although it opened last year, the Origins Luxury Lodge in Costa Rica has remained an under-the-radar hideaway — until now.

Here, there are just seven lodges: Six one-bedroom options and one three-bedroom option. Each has over 1,000 square feet of space, 180-degree views of the surrounding landscape (including Lake Nicaragua) and fire-heated baths. While this all sounds romantic, we’re told these rooms aren’t strictly for couples and have accommodated mothers/daughters, friends and even solo travelers. The three-bedroom Villa Vertigo is well-suited for families with older kids. Note: The resort is not suitable for young children (under eight to 10) due to the layout and location of the lodges.

Michelin-starred chef Jean-Luc L’Hourre created the resort’s gastronomy program, which embodies local cuisine. The restaurant, El Salto, is intended to make guests feel like they are visiting someone’s home. Tip: There is also an impressive wine list, with varieties from across the globe. El Salto is located in a main building, which is also occupied by the lounge bar and entertainment center with an adjacent pool and hot tub.

Included with the rate are three daily meals and a myriad of onsite activities, including fishing in the lagoons, yoga (with instructors) and horseback riding. General Manager Claudia Silvia ([email protected]) can also arrange guided hikes (we suggest the “Discovery Pathway,” which brings guests to Oro waterfall), cocoa plantation tours, white water rafting and more.

Although there is no spa, guests can request massages, facials and pedicures in their lodge or on the yoga deck.

Tip: For groups, Origins does offer buyouts — perfect for small weddings. We’re told guests will often combine a stay at Origins with a visit to the Guanacaste region, as both are serviced by Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia; for VIPs, the resort can arrange helicopter transfers to its own helipad.
