If you’re planning a getaway for a client who wants to experience healthful rejuvenation without sacrificing the luxury and comfort to which he’s accustomed, recommend Rancho La Puerta (www.rancholapuerta.com) in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico for a few days of spa treatments and fitness classes, hiking, lectures and award-winning organic cuisine.

All 87 rooms on the 3,000-acre property are unique, each offering a distinct local flair. Ask for a suite in the Villas Sol, which are private, hilltop casitas boasting  picturesque views of Mount Kuchumaa and access to a secluded pool and Jacuzzi. The suites have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchenette, fireplace and private patio. Insiders recommend booking accommodations several weeks in advance during high season (March to May); travel advisors should contact the U.S. reservations department directly (800-443-7565), as all reservationists know the property inside and out and can expertly pair clients with fitting  accommodations.

Fitness offerings range from morning hikes of varying difficulty levels and distance to group sessions in body sculpting, dance, Pilates, weight training, yoga, and more. Personal training sessions and private classes are available with all of the instructors and can be arranged once guests arrive on site.

Spa treatments are offered in several locations, but for skincare treatments we suggest the Villas Health Center, the newest, most picturesque facility. The most popular services include the Rancho La Puerta Classic Massage, the Golden Door Facial, the Alpha Vital Facial and the Le Grand Classique Facial (request Luce Ester for overall treatments, Cesario for the Classic Massage, and Miguel for the Sports Massage). Travel advisors should book appointments prior to clients’ arrival; insiders say contacting the spa director isn’t recommended, and suggest speaking to a well-versed reservationist at the time of room booking (800-443-7565).

Meals are served in the charming dining hall, where guests can dine alone or join group tables. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, while guests can select one of two meals during the sit-down dinner. Most of the food is harvested from the on-site organic garden, while fresh fish is purchased from a nearby seaside market. Private, in-room dining is available upon request, but most guests enjoy the communal spirit of the dining and overall resort experience.
